How’s it going?
Brining a unique international perspective to my artistic practice, shaped by formative years spent across Kansas, Germany, and Maryland. My dedication to both creating art and fostering artistic community has established me as an emerging voice in contemporary painting and printmaking.
Meet the artist
Charles Weckwerth was born in Topeka, Kansas, and spent his formative years living in Germany and Maryland before returning to Topeka at age ten. This multicultural upbringing continues to inform his artistic perspective and approach to making work.
Charles earned his BFA from Kansas State University in 2023, concentrating in painting and printmaking. During his studies, he participated in the prestigious Summer Undergraduate Residency Program at the New York Academy of Art in 2022, further developing his technical skills and artistic vision.
Currently serving as the sole shop technician for Kansas State University's Printmaking department, Charles manages fifteen hours weekly of open studio access while overseeing safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and inventory. In this role, he mentors undergraduate students in traditional print processes including intaglio, relief, and screen printing, sharing his expertise across multiple mediums.
Charles's work has been featured in group exhibitions at notable venues including the Tippetts and Eccles Gallery at Utah State University, Hendershot Gallery at Labette Community College, the Mark A. Chapman Gallery at Kansas State University, and the New York Academy of Art. His commitment to artistic community extends beyond his own practice—he re-formed Kansas State's painting club and served as president for two years, while also dedicating three years as Visiting Artist Coordinator for the Prairie Fire Printmakers. In recognition of his leadership and artistic merit, he was selected as an Ambassador for the K-State Department of Art during the fall 2022 semester.
Charles continues to develop his artistic practice from his private studio in Kansas, where he creates work that reflects his technical training, diverse cultural background, and ongoing commitment to the traditions and innovations of painting and printmaking.
